Women’s Spring-Summer 2022 Fashion Show in Shanghai
Nicolas Ghesquière presented his Louis Vuitton Women’s Spring-Summer 2022 Collection in Shanghai.
Set against the impressive skyline of the vibrant Chinese city, the Spring-Summer 2022 Collection is unveiled at the Shipyard Repair Docks on the Huangpu river in Shanghai, a waterway symbolic of the city’s rich history of voyage, one of the Maison's core values. For the occasion of the show, the entire skyline illuminated in red to match the theme color of the last Louis Vuitton show at the Louvre in Paris.
An invitation to the grand ball of time, Nicolas Ghesquière’s Spring-Summer 2022 Collection unites wardrobes of different eras, creating a fusion of generations. Having recently designed costumes for characters including lead actress Alicia Vikander in “Irma Vep”, a new series by Olivier Assayas for HBO, the Louis Vuitton Women’s Director was inspired by the premise of vampires, notably with the presence of capes in the collection. Exploring the tensions of past and present, transmission and timelessness are more than ever at the core this season.
This season, Nicolas Ghesquière explores the tension of opposing forces: present and past, construction and deconstruction, couture and casual, day and night. Embroidered ball gowns meet an urban wardrobe and formal wear juxtaposes with twisted humble uniforms. The collection also plays with size and shape, mixing elements to create unexpected forms, such as a pleated skirt that transforms into a cape. Light and ethereal, shredded chiffon Ellipse dresses with crinolines evoke Louis Vuitton’s early days, paying homage to the 200th anniversary of the birth of the Maison’s founder. In addition to the looks shown in Paris, exclusive pieces have been designed exclusively for the Shanghai runway, some of which display the Maison’s iconic gold chain and leather strap “Scarf Print”.
