Leather Goods Product Care

To care for a leather handbag or other luxury leather good, keep it dry, avoid chemicals, clean gently with a soft cloth, and store it properly away from sunlight and humidity. Different luxury materials (leather, canvas, exotic skins) require slightly different care methods; learn more below.

How To Care for Natural Leather Products

  • If the leather becomes stained before patina, do not try to clean it. Allow the leather to naturally darken and stains will become less apparent.

  • If exposed to water, blot immediately with a lint-free, light-colored cloth.

  • Avoid all chemicals like hand sanitizers, oils, or leather treatments (including mink oil or saddle soap), as they can damage the leather.

How To Care for Calfskin and Cowhide Leathers

  • For surface stains, clean with a soft, damp cloth with water.

  • Avoid using commercial cleaners.

  • Avoid oils, make up, perfumes, creams, or sanitizers. These can compromise the leathers’ natural beauty.

How To Care for Vernis Leather

  • Keep away from any materials that may transfer their color pigments onto the leather (for example magazines, denim, other leathers...). The risk of transfer may particularly affect small leather goods.

  • Avoid exposure to sunlight as color may fade. Light colors may also patina in time, developing a yellow hue.

How To Care for Empreinte Leather

  •  Avoid abrasive surfaces to avoid scratches or other damage

  • Avoid direct sun exposure and heat (radiators, car interiors overheated by the sun, etc).

  • Avoid contact with greasy substances, cosmetics, perfume, and hydroalcoholic solutions, as well as any highly pigmented material that may transfer color.

  • Keep away from water.

  • Should it get wet or dirty on the surface, dry with a lint free, light-colored, absorbent cloth. Never use soap or solvent.

  • Store in the felt protective pouch provided. Avoid humid or damp environments.

How To Care for Monogram and Damier Canvas

  • Coated canvas can easily be cleaned with a damp cloth and slightly soapy water.

  • Avoid using home remedies such as mink oil, perfume, alcohol-based solutions such as hand sanitizers, leather lotions, cleaners, or chemicals. The use of such remedies may cause the canvas to wear adversely and prematurely.

  • Avoid contact with highly pigmented materials to protect from color transfer, especially with lighter canvas like Damier Azur.

How To Care for Printed Canvas

  • To avoid signs of wear, limit the contact to hard or rough surfaces (walls, rugs, concrete). Even with gentle use, abrasions or fading may appear in areas of greatest wear (such as the corners, folds, and bottom).

  • Rotate the use of your handbag to ensure optimal wear and longevity.

  • For cleaning, use a soft, damp cloth with slightly soapy water, avoiding the printed portions.

  • Avoid mink oil, alcohol-based solutions such as hand sanitizers, leather lotions, cleaners, or chemicals.

How To Care for Exotic Skins Like Crocodile and Python

  • Protect from humidity, water & liquids as our exotic skins are processed naturally.

  • Avoid alcohol-based solutions  such as hand sanitizers or cleansing balms. These may alter the texture causing permanently visible stains and color transfer.

  • Should your bag encounter water, immediately and gently blot the affected area with a light-colored, absorbent, lint-free cloth.

  • Avoid exposure to sunlight may fade color.

How To Care for Extraordinary Creations

  • Extraordinary creations that include any metallic leathers, beading, feathers, sequins or printing, require special care and should only be cleaned with a soft, light-colored, lint-free cloth.

How To Care for iPhone Folios

  • Should the adherence grip strength diminish, simply wipe the surface gently with a cloth dampened with water to remove all particles. Allow ten minutes to dry to ensure suction cups are properly re-activated. Replace device by applying light pressure for a secure hold.

  • Do not use alcohol based solutions or glues. These may cause permanent damage

  • Application of other phone cases to the adherence will limit its performance capabilities and is not recommended.

  • Note: Although this case reduces the risk of damage to your device, Louis Vuitton is not responsible for any direct and/or indirect damage to your phone, particularly resulting from use that does not respect the above care guidelines or involves non-standard use of the case.
